How to Create a Healthy Eating Routine?

You are what you eat. Everything you take in – from foods to drinks – has a direct impact on your body and health. This is the main reason why eating healthy is one of the basic steps to achieve a healthier lifestyle. When you feel hungry, don’t just look for random food to eat. It is important to be mindful of the food that we choose to put inside our bodies to ensure that we are feeding our body the nutrients it needs. 

Most people these days aren’t really that mindful with what they eat. Practicing mindful eating requires time and determination to stick to a healthy eating routine. Whether you’re aiming to lose weight, gain healthy weight, or even just maintain a healthy body, a healthy eating routine is highly important. 

Here are some simple ways on how you could create a healthy eating routine you could follow every day. 

Eat Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables

Nutritional experts recommend a daily intake of at least 5 portions of fruits and vegetables. It could be in any form, whether fresh, canned, dried, and other more. It may sound challenging to get those 5 portions in a day but it is not really that hard to achieve as it may seem. 

You could mix fruits or vegetables in your usual meal, have fresh fruits as a snack, make a fruit or vegetable smoothie, and many other ways to consume them. You could also have fresh fruit and veg delivery right at your doorstep so you don’t have to worry about running out of fresh ones for your daily consumption. 

Choose Whole Grain

Starchy foods are an essential part of a healthy diet but it should only consist about a third of the food that your intake. People think that carbs are fattening and they avoid it. However, it is actually where our body gets the energy it needs to fuel us up on our daily activities. 

To stay healthy, it is recommended to include at least one starchy food in every main meal. Also, choose whole grains more than refined starchy carbs. There are plenty of whole grain varieties to choose from such as brown rice, whole wheat pasta, oats, and many more. Whole grains are an important source of fiber, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. They are also a good source of plant-based protein. Starchy carbs like white breads, rice and pasta have little nutritional value but can make you gain weight easily.

Lessen Intake of Sugar and Saturated Fat

Sugar is a part of many foods that people around the world eat on a daily basis. It comes in the form of candy, cereal, ice cream, and more. Many people are concerned about their sugar intake but don’t know how to lower it without going through extreme measures such as cutting out all sweets or other sugary items completely. There are several ways to avoid eating too much sugar without restricting yourself

Too much sugar and saturated fat have a negative impact to the body. Excessive intake of saturated fat rises blood cholesterol levels and higher risk of heart disease. On the other hand, too much sugar puts a person at a higher risk of obesity, diabetes, and even tooth decay. 

Eat More Fish

Fish is a great healthy source of protein and fats plus it also contains a lot of vitamins and minerals that are needed by the body. It is recommended to have at least 2 portions of fish in a week plus one portion of oily fish. Fresh fish are the best but you could still opt for frozen, canned, and even smoked varieties. 

Eating healthy requires some effort. It could be challenging at first but you’ll be amazed at how it changes the quality of your health in the long run.
